Sarah Thompson
Senior Gaming Editor, Canada
Sarah is the Senior Gaming Editor responsible for the PowerUp Canada editorial output. She has spent more than nine years writing about online casinos and game design, with a focus on what makes a slot or table game actually fun to play — and what makes one a bankroll-shredding trap.
Her early career covered the Canadian iGaming market for independent review sites in Toronto, where she wrote operator due-diligence pieces, payment-method explainers and responsible-gambling guides referenced by provincial advocacy groups. She joined the PowerUp content team because the brand's retro-arcade thesis matched her own enthusiasm for the games-design history that modern slots have inherited from arcades, pinball and console hits.
At PowerUp she leads coverage of: slot mechanics (Megaways, cluster pays, hold-and-spin, persistent state), live-dealer game shows, the Canadian regulatory landscape, payment methods for Canadians and player-protection tools. She approaches every page on the site the same way: tell readers what they actually need to know before they deposit, without the marketing polish.
Outside PowerUp, Sarah is a founding contributor to a Toronto-based newsletter on retro-arcade preservation and writes occasional long-form essays on the cultural history of slot-machine design. She holds a degree in media studies from Toronto Metropolitan University and lives in Toronto.
